About Alexander Morrison National Park

Located approximately 250 kilometers north of Perth in Western Australia's Mid West region, Alexander Morrison National Park covers an area of unique kwongan vegetation, a type of species-rich heathland adapted to nutrient-poor soils. The park is particularly famous for its spectacular spring wildflower blooms, attracting botanists, photographers, and nature lovers from across the country. Established in 1970, the park preserves one of the finest examples of Western Australia's native flora, including rare and endemic species such as various orchids, banksias, and eucalyptus varieties. The gently undulating sandstone terrain supports a mosaic of habitat types, providing refuge for diverse fauna including birds like the Western Spinebill and mammals such as the western grey kangaroo. Visitors enjoy hiking on well-marked trails, photographic safaris, and picnic outings amid the colorful blooms. The park's excellent accessibility and minimal development allow for a peaceful outdoor experience focused on natural observation and quiet recreation. Its proximity to small towns like Carnamah and Coorow also gives visitors opportunities to explore local culture and history. While there are no large-scale campgrounds inside the park, nearby accommodations and camping options are available in the region.
